Facial implants can improve your appearance and your self-esteem. If you are looking for an improvement, not perfection, of your appearance and is realistic in your expectations, the realization of a facial implant may be the right choice.
We often use these implants to obtain a better balance of the features of a young patient. For example, a teenager may need to reshape her nose and move her chin a little forward so that her features are more proportionate. More mature patients generally use the implants in conjunction with other treatments. For example, during a facelift implants placed on the cheekbones contribute to a more youthful appearance. Implants can also be used to improve faces that look sad or tired.
Facial implants produce changes that clearly improve the features. The problems are infrequent but it is necessary to inform them of them. In this text we will show you the most frequent ones.
In the first place, some implant may move slightly from its position and a second attempt may be necessary in order to place it correctly. Infections can occur in any operation. If presented around an implant and could not be cleaned after antibiotic treatment, the implant may have to be temporarily removed and replaced later. Other less frequent risks may be associated with other implants. In each particular case we will expose the particularities of each procedure.

The chin implant is a surgical procedure through which a chin modification is made, prominent or removed, thus providing an improvement of the facial area, thanks to the use of silicone implants. The objective is to improve and balance the different facial areas, obtaining very natural results.
In addition to helping to have a better appearance in the oral area, chin implants can be used to correct congenital deficiencies and facial trauma.
Chin surgery or chin implant includes removal of excess adipose tissue from the area. In the case of a withdrawn chin it will be improved with the insertion of the implant and in a prominent chin the bone will be reduced and sculpted.
The chin provides expression to the facial area, the best candidates are those who seek to improve the size and shape of their chin, thus highlighting the middle third of the facial oval.
This is achieved to benefit those people who have a retracted chin and a prominent nose.
Chin augmentation provides balance and definition of the jaw and the appearance of a large nose. This type of treatment is usually common to combine with a rhinoplasty or some implant of cheekbones, thus achieving a perfect result.

TYPES OF IMPLANTS
In our aesthetic surgery clinics we use different shapes and sizes for chin implants, adapting to the facial needs of each of the patients, thus achieving a much more optimal result.
The manufacturer of the implants is Polytech, made 100% with silicone, material that does not cause any type of allergy or rejection in the patient.
The intervention is performed with local anesthesia, facilitating a quick and easy recovery by the patient. In a few days you can recover the confidence and volume of the chin area, and a great harmony with the other facial areas in a definitive way.
This type of chin implants do not produce bone erosion, so they can be extracted without problem if the person so wishes, since they do not integrate with the subcutaneous tissue.
How is surgery?
Chin augmentation surgery is characterized by a quick and simple procedure recovering facial harmony. Being a minor surgery, the patient will not need a medical leave and a few hours after being operated on, he will be able to go home in perfect condition.
The procedure used for the chin implant is:
- Sedation of the patient with local anesthesia.
- A small incision is made in the crease of the chin, thus avoiding the appearance of perceptible scars. In some cases it is done through an intra-oral incision,
- The chin implant is inserted and positioned just in front of the maxillary area. adjusting with the muscles and the periosteum, which helps it to be fixed, and can not be mobilized a posteriori
- The plastic surgeon is responsible for verifying that there is a balance according to the facial areas, to finish modifying or accommodating the implant.
- It is finished with absorbable suture that will dissolve in a few days
Once the operation is completed, the patient will feel a slight swelling in the treated area, which will decrease during the first week.
After the first 48 hours, the patient should begin with the treatment review sessions.
During the consultation, the surgeon and medical specialist will assess the type, shape and size of the prosthesis in order to achieve the best result.
The results are practically immediate, the patient will have managed to harmonize the facial area with a natural result and without having any visible scar.
AFTER SURGERY
After the intervention, it is normal that the patient feels discomfort, may have small bruises and swelling in the chin and face that after the first days will disappear. In the oral area you will have internal points that will be reabsorbed over time.
The patient must return to the different revisions after the treatment (approximately 48 hours after surgery, 1 week, 15 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after the intervention). In some cases a more exhaustive control will be necessary that can reach a total of 18 months.
Relative rest during the first 24 hours after the intervention. You can restart physical exercise after the first week.
Use of external bandage for practically a week.
The patient should take the medication recommended by the plastic surgeon.
Avoid direct exposure to the sun between a month, in addition to placing local cold in the treated area.
Do not smoke or drink alcohol during the 30 days before and after the intervention.
Advantage:
The chin surgery manages to recover the harmony of the facial features in a quick and natural way for the patient.
This process has a series of advantages with respect to other treatments of a temporary nature:
- Natural and definitive results.
- Quick and simple process to get the chin augmentation we are looking for.
- The type of prosthesis with which we work does not generate any type of rejection for the patient, nor cause any erosion to the facial bones.
- Does not leave scars because the treatment is done inside the mouth.
Surgery of malar implants usually lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. When the malar implants are made in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, such as face lift, face lift, or eyelid surgery, implants can be inserted through incisions made for these purposes. In another case, an incision is made either inside the upper lip or in the lower eyelid. A pocket is dissected and the implant inserted.
After surgery, a bandage is applied to minimize edema and discomfort. The severity and duration of these effects may vary, especially if another cosmetic procedure is performed at the same time …
Recovery after malar implants
We will give you instructions about postoperative care. There will be limitations on diet as well as restrictions on normal activity. In any case these instructions vary, especially if another procedure is performed with the implants. Your ability to move your mouth and lips may temporarily decrease. The sutures used to close the wounds inside the mouth are removed after ten days or dissolve progressively.
Recovery after surgery
Edema is sometimes important immediately after surgery. Generally it reaches the maximum at 24 or 48 hours. Most of the severe swelling goes down in a period of a few days, however some edema may persist that does not allow to appreciate the final facial contour until a few months later.
During the healing phase, your activities and diet will be restricted. Your ability to smile, speak or move your mouth is a bit limited for a few days or weeks after surgery. We will inform you about oral and dental hygiene measures during your recovery.
Returning to normal
Remember, with any facial surgery, you can feel better and look nicer in a short time. However, it may not be advisable to participate in certain activities for a few weeks, especially those in which the treated areas are involved.
Facial implants help change the basic structure of the face giving it a more balanced appearance.
Your new appearance
You may not be able to appreciate your final appearance in a few weeks or months. This is because the body needs some time to completely eliminate the swelling. Have a little patience when evaluating its final appearance. You will be surprised that most people will not recognize that they are wearing a facial implant only that their appearance will have improved.
