BRAQUIOPLASTY (ARMS LIFTING)
Axillary brachioplasty is an operation to treat flaccidity and excess fat and skin on the inner side of the arms.
Over the years or after losing a lot of weight, the skin of the arms can give a flaccid appearance. When it is pronounced there is no treatment that is effective except surgery.
Datasheet
SURGICAL TIME: One hour
ANESTHESIA: General, or local + sedation
PLACE WHERE IT IS PERFORMED: Hospital Nisa Pardo de Aravaca
HOSPITALIZATION : It is performed in ambulatory regime
RECOVERY: between five and seven days
There are 3 degrees of defects of the contour of the arms:
- Grade I, in which changes are incipient and liposuction is usually enough. By removing excess fat from the inner side, the skin retracts.
- Grade II, where flaccidity is already intermediate. It is usually indicated a cutaneous stretch leaving the scar circumscribed to the armpit.
- Grade III, which are more advanced cases, where it is necessary to make a longitudinal scar on the inside of the arms up to the elbow.
What should you know if you want to perform a Brachioplasty?
Any patient that has undergone major weight changes or that over the years has a relatively important skin flaccidity or accumulation of fat located on the inside of the arms. Depending on the degree of affectation, one of the three alternatives will be recommended. We will try to indicate the technique with minor scar.
At the first consultation you will have an arm examination and advise you the best option for you. According to your needs you will be recommended to remove skin or do a simple liposuction. The choice will be decided jointly between you and your surgeon.
After the surgery, a compression garment will be placed on both arms that will be maintained for at least 2 weeks and analgesics will be administered to make sure you are fine.
Depending on the degree of flaccidity, there are 3 possible interventions: only liposuction, stretch the skin through a hidden incision in the armpit or an incision in the inner side of the arm.
Some patients are candidates to perform only liposuction to extract excess fat and it will be the elasticity of the skin that gives us the final result. Some patients do not have enough elasticity and strength in their skin and it will be necessary to remove the skin, which in cases of moderate excess will be enough with a scar at the level of the axillary fold, but in some other cases of greater flaccidity and excess of skin. , it will be necessary to remove more skin, with the consequent longer scar that will run along the entire length of the arm, usually up to the elbow joint. This scar will be made on the inside of the arm to make it less visible.
You will be given a specific treatment of the scar by applying silicone sheets during the first months, so that they evolve as quickly as possible. One year after the intervention, they are barely perceptible, especially those that remain inside the armpit.
Brachioplasty can be considered as a definitive intervention. Although the patient will noticeably increase his weight during the following years, the appearance of the arms will remain stable over time. Likewise, the scar will be less and less noticeable..
The anesthesia that is normally used is sedation + local anesthesia; although some patients require a mild general anesthesia, with awakening immediately after finishing the procedure, so in both cases the patient can be managed on an outpatient basis, without needing hospitalization days.
If you have any questions about brachioplasty, do not hesitate to ask your surgeon, who will gladly assist you and solve it.
